St Andrew’s Cathedral, Dundee was the venue for a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The Mass was concelebrated by Mgr Kenneth McBride, Diocesan Chaplain to the St Vincent de Paul Society, and Canon Michael Milton, Cathedral Administrator. Recently ordained Deacon, Rev. Michael Carrie was the Deacon of the Mass.
Members of the Society from the various City Conferences took part in the liturgy and welcomed those who attended the celebration. Canon Milton, during his homily, recalled the history of the Society in Dundee, a history that had a bumpy start, but resulted in a contribution to the lives of the poor and marginalised in the city which was beyond words. He encouraged present members to recognise the full beauty and value of the work they carried out and the need to encourage future generations to invest in the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society for the benefit of those in need.
