End of an era at St Mary’s Monifieth

Sheena Renton looks back on more than 20 years as Care Manager at St Mary’s Care Home, Monifieth.

“I started in St Mary’s at the beginning of 2003 as a Care Assistant. I had never worked in care before so thought to myself I will give it one week to see if I like it and I have been here ever since. After a few years I was then promoted to Relief Senior which entailed standing in for the Seniors for holiday cover.”

“I was then promoted to Senior and remained in that role until 2015 when I applied to be Manager as over the years many managers came and went. I was accepted for this position and remained as manager up until my retirement on 18th December 2024.”

“During my many years in St Mary’s I acquired 3 qualifications to which I am most proud of.
In my time as Manager there has been good times, bad times but I have enjoyed it all immensely.
My biggest challenge as Manager was getting the home through Covid times but with a good team behind me we managed to keep our residents and ourselves safe. I will miss all the staff and residents but I feel it is now my time to retire and see what the next chapter of my life brings.”
