Parishioners from St Mungo’s, Alloa, St Bernadette’s, Tullibody, St John Vianney’s, Alva and St Serf’s High Valleyfield visited the Cathedral at Amiens, and Nevers to visit the tomb of St Bernadette. Mass was celebrated in both locations by Canon Michael Milton, who was chaplain to the group. The pilgrimage was organised by Mr McLaughlin, parishioner of St Bernadette’s, Tullibody. During their stay in Lourdes the group attended the International Mass as well as the Blessed Sacrament Procession and the Marian Torchlight procession. They also had the opportunity to take part in Mass at the Grotto.
Fortunately for the pilgrims they had left Lourdes before the town and the Grotto was hit by devastating floods. Among the many buildings damaged by the flood water was the Hotel Paradis, in which the group had stayed during their time in Lourdes.
