Pope Francis has appointed a new Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain. He is Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams. Archbishop Adams, was born in Philadelphia and a graduate of St Charles Borromeo Seminary He was ordained a priest for the Philadelphia Archdiocese by Cardinal John Krol in 1970. After further studies in Rome in 1976 he entered the Vatican Diplomatic Service and in 1996 was consecrated bishop and as archbishop named apostolic nuncio, to Bangladesh.
In subsequent appointments he served as apostolic nuncio to Zimbabwe and the Philippines and since 2011 has served in Greece.
Commenting on the appointment, Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, President of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, said;
“On behalf of the Bishops’ Conference and of the whole Catholic community of Scotland, I welcome the appointment of the new Apostolic Nuncio and offer him our prayerful good wishes for his important service as Nuncio. Together with all the Scottish Bishops, I look forward to welcoming Archbishop Adams to Scotland in due course.”
