Our Lady’s Primary, Forebank, celebrates 50 years

Press releases

Our Lady’s RC Primary School marked a significant milestone this year, celebrating 50 years of dedication to education and community. The occasion was highlighted by a beautiful celebratory Mass at St Mary, Our Lady of Victories Church, where the school gathered together in gratitude, joy, and reflection.

The Mass was led by Bishop Andrew McKenzie, with Canon Kevin Golden and Father Michael Ngobili concelebrating the liturgy. Their presence was a reminder of the long-standing partnership between the church and the school, and their words of wisdom resonated deeply with everyone in attendance.

We were honoured to welcome several guests, including Mrs Audrey May, Executive Director of Children and Families Service, Mr Mark Flynn, leader of the Council, Mr George McIrvine, Local Councillor, former headteachers Mrs Liz Conroy and Mrs Alison Curran as well as many former staff members and pupils. The current families of the school and parishioners were also present, making this celebration a true community event.

The Mass itself was a beautiful and moving experience, with pupils taking an active role in leading the congregation in prayer, readings, and song. Their involvement added a personal touch to the celebration, showcasing the talent and spirit of the pupils at Our Lady’s RC Primary School. The prayers, hymns, and readings created an atmosphere of reverence and joy, reflecting the faith at the heart of the school’s mission.

After the Mass, the celebration continued with refreshments served in the school hall. Attendees were invited to reconnect with one another over a cup of tea and take in the photograph exhibition, which showcased the history and journey of the school over the past five decades. The exhibition was a wonderful reminder of the many achievements, growth, and memories that have shaped the school into what it is today.

The event was both emotional and uplifting, with attendees reflecting on the rich legacy of Our Lady’s RC Primary School. The joy of reconnecting, reminiscing, and looking toward the future was felt by all who were present. This memorable celebration will undoubtedly remain etched in the hearts and minds of all those who attended for many years to come.

The 50th anniversary celebration of Our Lady’s RC Primary School was a testament to the strong sense of community, faith, and shared history that has defined the school for half a century. It was a day filled with warmth, pride, and hope for the future, as the school continues to serve and inspire generations to come.
