Canon Michael Milton, Administrator of St Andrew’s Cathedral, Dundee and Parish priest of St Fillan’s, Newport, represented Mgr Basil O’Sullivan, the Diocesan Administrator and the Diocese of Dunkeld at the Scottish National Ecumenical Event in Aberdeen on Saturday 14th September.
The event began in Bishop Gilbert’s House with a lecture given by Mgr Peter Hocken on the “Renewal of Faith and Ecumenical Reconciliation under the Leadership of Pope Francis”. Among those who attended the day were Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, Archbishop of Glasgow; Bishop Stephen Robson, Auxiliary Bishop of St. Andrews and Edinburgh; Fr Thomas Boyle, representing the Diocese of Paisley; Abbott Anselm Atkinson OSB, Abbott of Pluscarden; Bishop Nigel Peyton, Episcopal Bishop of Brechin, and Bishop Bob Gillies, Episcopal Bishop of Aberdeen, as well as representatives from other faith communities.
After lunch the guests were transported to the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, Union Street, Aberdeen, for a short Ecumenical Service, and then took part in a walk of witness to St Mary’s RC Cathedral in Huntly Street. The last event of the day was a Service of Prayer and Praise led by Bishop Hugh Gilbert of Aberdeen. This was followed by a reception in the Cathedral Halls.
