Successful Afternoon for Life Event in Dunkeld Diocese

Press releases

The Dunkeld branch of SPUC recently hosted another successful Afternoon for Life event on Saturday 8th March, bringing together a dedicated audience to discuss key pro-life issues.

Sister Roseann, from the Sisters for the Gospel of Life, delivered a heartfelt and inspiring talk, sharing her experiences of supporting women in crisis pregnancies for over 30 years. Her compassionate insight resonated deeply with the 40-strong audience.

Dr. Eileen Riley, a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, then spoke about the complex moral dilemmas that can arise in pregnancy. She emphasized the importance of loving care at all stages of life, highlighting the medical profession’s responsibility to both mother and baby. Her perspective beautifully illustrated how it is possible to be both a committed pro-life advocate and a doctor.

The final talk of the afternoon addressed the current state of proposed legislation on assisted suicide in both Holyrood and Westminster. Brian, from the newly formed Campaign Against Assisted Dying, encouraged attendees to engage with their MPs and MSPs, emphasizing that personal letters and advocacy efforts can make a real difference in shaping future legislation. There is hope that this campaign will be invited to parishes across the Dunkeld Diocese to help inform and empower parishioners in contacting their parliamentary representatives.

SPUC was also delighted to welcome Bishop Andrew, who has expressed his strong commitment to continuing the support for the pro-life movement that Bishop Stephen so faithfully upheld in the diocese. It was a great privilege to have him open and close the event in prayer, reinforcing the importance of our shared mission.

The event was a resounding success, strengthening the commitment of many to defending the sanctity of life.

SPUC strongly encourage all parishioners to take action by writing to their MPs and MSPs, urging them to oppose the proposed assisted dying legislation. Every voice matters, and your efforts could help protect the most vulnerable in society.
